Attack on Lviv's Mayor

According to Главком: On May 15, an unidentified man doused Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi with an unknown substance in the city's historic Market Square. Sadovyi described the act as hooliganism. Police responded promptly and identified the suspect as a 46-year-old local resident. Authorities have opened a criminal case under Part 1 of Article 296 of Ukraine's Criminal Code, which addresses hooliganism.

Penalties and Reactions

If convicted, the suspect could face a fine, probation, or up to five years in prison. The investigation remains ongoing. Commenting on the attack, Sadovyi stated:

“I was walking to work in the morning when a man ran up and poured a bucket of dirty liquid on my back. That's all. I changed clothes. I'll wash them tonight.” - Andriy Sadovyi

He also emphasized that this was not the first time he had been targeted: “This is hooliganism, not an assassination attempt. I've been attacked before, so I'm used to it. Don't blow it out of proportion.”

The mayor expressed gratitude for public concern, adding: “But thank you for the care. Everything is fine.” The information comes from Glavcom, citing the mayor's social media post.

This incident involving Lviv's mayor highlights ongoing safety challenges faced by public figures in Ukraine. While police have launched an investigation, the case raises broader concerns about aggression and disorder in society. Notably, Sadovyi has been the target of similar attacks in the past, suggesting potential systemic issues in protecting officials and public figures. The investigation may explore underlying causes of such behavior and ways to prevent future occurrences.
