Moldova's Imports of Milk and Dairy Products

According to Главком: In 2025, Moldova sourced more than two-thirds of its imported milk and dairy products from neighboring Ukraine. The total volume of these imports reached 26.7 thousand tons, valued at $23.4 million. Of this, raw milk shipments from Ukraine alone accounted for 16.8 thousand tons, representing 66.1% of all dairy imports into the country. This trade relationship is a key component of Moldova's food supply chain.

Market Reliance on Ukrainian Dairy

Moldova's dependence on Ukrainian dairy is particularly pronounced in specific categories. For high-fat cream containing over 10% fat, Ukrainian suppliers held a market share exceeding 80%. Furthermore, Ukraine supplied nearly 68% of the milk and cream segment that includes added sweeteners, indicating its strong position within Moldova's dairy sector. This data highlights the significant role Ukrainian products play in filling specific market niches for Moldovan consumers.

The figures underscore the importance of agricultural cooperation between Ukraine and Moldova, reflecting broader trends in the regional dairy market. As Moldova pursues European integration and develops its trade relations, imports from Ukraine remain a crucial factor in meeting domestic consumer demand. Continued collaboration in this sector not only supports economic growth but also contributes to regional food security stability, a priority for Eastern Europe.
