EU Youth Leaves Parents at 26: Who Leads the Indicator

Youth in the EU Lives with Parents
Молодь ЄС залишає батьків у 26 років: хто визначає цю тенденцію?

According to Eurostat, last year, girls and boys in the EU said goodbye to their parental homes at an average age of 26.2. This figure is slightly lower than in 2023 - 26.3. This was reported by the Euronews portal.

Those living in Southern and Eastern Europe tend to stay with their parents the longest. Croatia leads the way, where youth live with their parents until the age of 31. Slovakia, Greece, Italy, and Spain also show high figures. In contrast, in Finland, Denmark, and Sweden, youth leave their parental home at a relatively young age.

In many EU countries, young people are postponing their move due to rising housing costs, which is leading to a decrease in independence. Additionally, young people are more likely to live in overcrowded households compared to the general population, which is becoming a serious issue. EU countries are looking for ways to address this problem and provide affordable housing for youth.

According to Eurostat data, youth in the EU are staying at home with their parents for longer, particularly due to the challenging housing access conditions and overcrowding issues. European Union countries are searching for ways to resolve this situation to ensure affordable housing and greater independence for youth.
