Carrot Prices Plummet by 60% in a Year: The March 2026 Price Drop Explained
Carrot Market Pricing in Ukraine
According to ХВИЛЯ: Despite a recent monthly price increase, the cost of carrots in Ukraine has fallen dramatically by 59.4% over the past year as of March 2026. The average price per kilogram now stands at 15.10 UAH. This significant annual decline is primarily attributed to storage issues stemming from the poor-quality 2025 harvest, which was damaged by unfavorable weather conditions. This price volatility is a common challenge in agricultural markets, where supply and quality can shift rapidly.
Over the last month alone, carrot prices have risen by nearly 20%. This short-term increase occurs against the backdrop of the steep annual drop, given that a kilogram cost approximately 36.77 UAH a year ago. Current price levels have effectively returned to those seen in the spring of 2024.
Supermarket Price Variations
A price survey from February 28, 2026, reveals a wide range for carrots per kilogram across different supermarket chains:
- ATB – 10.89 UAH
- Ashan – 11.40 UAH
- Novus – 11.49 UAH
- Silpo – 12.60 UAH
- Varus – 12.90 UAH
- MegaMarket – 21 UAH
The adverse autumn weather in 2025 during harvest led to a deterioration in product quality, which has further complicated the market situation. The overall price decrease, even amidst the recent monthly rise, is drawing attention from both consumers and experts analyzing trends in the agricultural sector.
The analysis of Ukraine's carrot market points to difficult conditions for agricultural producers, who are grappling with storage and quality issues. Consumers can observe price fluctuations in supermarkets, where costs vary significantly by retailer. Short-term price increases may reflect underlying market instability, necessitating continued expert monitoring and analysis.
