Restoring Ukraine's Power Supply

According to ХВИЛЯ: Ukraine is accelerating efforts to restore heat and electricity following severe winter frosts. A key high-voltage line connecting Ukraine's power grid to Moldova's has been repaired, with work finishing at 2 a.m. today. Ukrainian Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal stated this repair will add 500 MW of capacity to help stabilize the power supply in southern regions. This work is part of a broader, ongoing effort to repair infrastructure damaged by both extreme weather and military attacks.

In the Kyiv region, a 1.5 MW facility was launched yesterday, with an additional 1 MW expected tomorrow. Throughout January, the region has gained roughly 4.5 MW of additional capacity, improving local energy security. To support the economy, the government has also expanded credit programs for businesses. The maximum investment loan amount under the '5-7-9%' program has been increased from 150 to 250 million hryvnias.

New Support Initiatives

A new program called 'LightHOME' has been launched, providing grants of 100,000 to 300,000 hryvnias to co-owners of apartment buildings. This funding is for purchasing generators, batteries, inverters, solar panels, and other equipment to ensure backup power. An initial 800 million hryvnias has been allocated for the program's first stage, with a pilot project to be implemented in Kyiv and the surrounding region.

The energy situation in Ukraine remains highly dynamic, particularly under the strain of extreme weather. Restoring generation capacity and launching new support programs are critical steps toward ensuring national stability. These measures not only aim to improve the quality of life for citizens but also bolster the economy by creating more favorable conditions for business and investment during a challenging period.
