Mozambique may start supplying gas to Ukraine - Zelensky

President Volodymyr Zelensky reported on negotiations with the President of Mozambique, Daniel Shapu, regarding potential gas supplies to Ukraine. The parties also discussed security cooperation and technological interaction. 

According to the President, Ukraine is interested in expanding its energy supply sources. At the same time, Mozambique expressed interest in Ukrainian experience in the field of safety and protection of the population.

Gas Supplies to Ukraine: New Directions of Cooperation

During the conversation, the parties outlined the key areas of interaction:

• possible import of natural gas from Mozambique

• exchange of experience in the field of security and countering threats

• cooperation in digitalization

• development of food security.

Volodymyr Zelensky noted: «We also spoke about possible cooperation in the field of digitalization and food security. We agreed that our teams will work together».

Energy Cooperation of Ukraine: What is Known about Mozambique's Resources

Mozambique started industrial gas extraction in 2022 in the Indian Ocean shelf. The extraction is carried out from the Coral South floating platform, which is connected to six underwater wells.

Recall that Ukraine is already actively diversifying energy resource supplies. In particular:

• in November 2025, «Naftogaz» agreed with the Polish company ORLEN on the supply of at least 300 million cubic meters of American gas

• in February 2026, Ukraine imported LNG for the first time through the German terminal Deutsche ReGas on Rügen Island

• later, supplies were made through the Lithuanian terminal in Klaipeda.

Thus, Kyiv continues to seek new energy sources to strengthen the country's energy security.
