Росія закликає США відновити візові послуги, що викликає занепокоєння щодо подорожей на чемпіонат світу 2025 року.

Russia's Call for Visa Services to Resume

According to Главком: Russia's Foreign Ministry has formally called on the United States to restart the processing of U.S. visas within Russia. Currently, Russian citizens are forced to apply for visas in third countries, such as Kazakhstan and Poland. This issue has gained urgency with the upcoming 2025 FIFA World Cup, which is scheduled to be hosted by the United States. The tournament's location makes U.S. visa access a critical concern for Russian fans and officials.

U.S. visa services in Russia were suspended in 2021. Since September 2025, U.S. rules for non-immigrant visas have required applicants to undergo an interview in their country of citizenship or permanent residence. Consequently, Russians must now apply through U.S. diplomatic missions abroad, including those in Warsaw and Astana.

Wider Visa Challenges for Russian Citizens

Canada has also halted visa services inside Russia, closing its visa application centers there. The Russian Foreign Ministry expressed hope that

"the American side will abolish the discriminatory visa requirements for Russian citizens."

This diplomatic request highlights the ongoing tensions affecting consular relations between the nations.

Resuming visa issuance inside Russia would significantly ease travel for its citizens to the United States, particularly for the 2025 World Cup. At present, Russians face substantial logistical hurdles in obtaining visas, which could impact their ability to attend major international events. With both U.S. and Canadian visa services unavailable domestically, the situation remains difficult for those planning travel to North America.

As the issue of visa accessibility remains a pressing concern for Russian citizens, it's worth noting that Russia's recent discussions with Mozambique aim to establish visa-free travel, showcasing a contrasting approach to international mobility. This development highlights the broader challenges faced by Russians in securing travel arrangements, particularly in the context of significant events like the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
