Ukraine Urges EU to Block Entry for Russian Soldiers and Their Families
Ukraine Calls on EU to Restrict Border Access for Russian Military Personnel
According to 5 канал: Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Andriy Sybiha, has urged European Union member states to implement unified travel bans targeting Russian soldiers involved in the invasion of Ukraine, along with their relatives. He stressed the urgent need to tighten visa restrictions on Russian citizens and increase monitoring of Russian diplomats’ movements across Europe. According to Sybiha, anyone participating in the war against Ukraine should be barred from entering European countries.
Estonia has already taken steps by prohibiting entry to Russian military personnel engaged in the conflict. Sybiha emphasized that limiting visa issuance to Russian nationals is a critical component of Europe’s national security strategy.
“Strong pressure is necessary to deter Moscow,” he stated, highlighting the significance of this issue for the continent’s safety.
Backing from European Union Officials
European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas endorsed the proposal to escalate sanctions against Russia. She reaffirmed that the EU will maintain firm sanctions, especially in light of recent Russian attacks that killed over 80 Ukrainian civilians in just two days. Kallas pointed out the increased hybrid threats from Moscow targeting EU countries and NATO allies, reinforcing the need for further measures to safeguard security in the region.
Both Sybiha and Kallas underscored the importance of coordinated EU action to counter Russian aggression and protect European values and security.
This appeal reflects growing concern among European nations about regional safety and the necessity for a united response to Russia’s hostile actions. Enacting common entry bans for Russian military members could strengthen a collective front against threats emerging from Moscow. Such measures are also likely to boost international solidarity in support of Ukraine and contribute to maintaining stability across Europe.
As the EU considers Ukraine's call for unified travel bans, it is crucial to note that the European Commission plans to implement stricter visa rules for Russian travelers in January. This initiative underscores the growing urgency among EU nations to enhance security measures in response to escalating threats from Russia, aligning with Ukraine's efforts to fortify regional safety.
