According to ДСНС: A distressing incident occurred in Prykarpattia - three children, two ten-year-olds and one twelve-year-old, were hospitalized due to carbon monoxide poisoning. It turned out that the cause was a violation of safety rules while using an electric generator.

Carbon monoxide is dangerous because it has no color, smell, or taste, making it hard to detect. Most often, poisoning happens during sleep. Therefore, it is important to follow safety rules when using generators and other heating devices.

  • Use the generator only outdoors, at least 6 meters away from the house.
  • Do not place the generator indoors, in a garage, basement, or on a balcony.
  • Do not position the generator near windows, doors, or ventilation openings.
  • Ensure that exhaust gases do not enter the premises.
  • Refuel the generator after it has completely cooled down.
  • Regularly check heating devices.
  • Clean the flues and ventilation.
  • Do not leave devices unattended.
  • Install a carbon monoxide detector.

Do not forget about safety to avoid similar cases of carbon monoxide poisoning.

As a result of violating safety rules while using the generator, three children in Prykarpattia were poisoned by carbon monoxide.
