According to glavcom.ua: After traveling several hundred kilometers on public roads, he left the APC on the roadside near a village and went to sleep in a thicket. The deserter was detained by officers of the State Bureau of Investigation, military police, and the Security Service of Ukraine. The stolen equipment and weapon were returned to the military unit.
In January 2025, a serviceman who served as a driver of special equipment unlawfully left the military unit in the Sumy region. Under the pretext of refueling the armored personnel carrier, he drove the APC out of the unit's territory, taking an automatic rifle with him, and headed home to Poltava region.
As a result of the judicial proceedings, it was revealed that the serviceman was guilty of desertion and theft of military equipment under martial law. For these crimes, he was sentenced to 7 years of imprisonment under part 4 of article 408 and part 4 of article 410 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The serviceman left the military unit, stole the armored personnel carrier, and was detained; he was sentenced to 7 years in prison for desertion and theft of equipment under martial law.
