Expert on Louvre Robbery: Jewels May Have Already Been Divided

Stolen jewels from the Louvre face the risk of disappearance: expert warns of the worst-case scenario
Експерт із викрадення в Луврі: Можливо, коштовності вже розділено між злочинцями.

Christopher Marinello, the CEO of Art Recovery International, expressed concern about the possible fate of the stolen jewels from the Louvre, which may be broken down into smaller parts and sold on the black market if not found within the first 48 hours after the theft.

«As we have said from the very beginning of this theft, if the jewels are not found within the first 48 hours, they are most likely to be broken into smaller jewels and gemstones and sold on the market», – said Marinello.

The stolen jewels consist of thousands of individual diamonds, emeralds, and sapphires, making their identification difficult. The French anti-terrorism office has already arrested seven suspects in the Louvre robbery, who have partially admitted their guilt. The robbery took place on October 19, when the attackers broke into the museum, smashed the windows, and stole the jewels.

One of the main threats to the stolen jewels from the Louvre is their potential disassembly into smaller parts and sale on the black market if they are not found within the first 48 hours. The expert also emphasized the complexity of identifying the stolen stones, the composition of which is being studied by specialists. Given the arrest of the suspects in the robbery, it may be possible to solve this criminal act and return the jewels to the museum.
