NATO to Hold New 'Ramstein' Meeting on February 12: Key Decisions for Ukraine
NATO Allies to Convene for Crucial Ukraine Support Talks on February 12
According to Главком: NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has reaffirmed the unwavering support for Ukraine from the United States and its allies, stressing the critical importance of military aid and sanctions against Russia. As part of this ongoing commitment, a new meeting in the 'Ramstein' format has been announced for February 12 at the Alliance's headquarters in Brussels. These regular meetings have become a cornerstone of coordinating international military assistance for Ukraine.
Rutte made his statement ahead of a meeting of NATO defense ministers in Brussels. He noted that the U.S. and European allies are actively employing sanctions mechanisms to pressure Russia. Specifically, UK Defense Minister John Healey announced the allocation of half a billion pounds to bolster Ukraine's air defense systems. Rutte also emphasized that the U.S. continues to provide Ukraine with critically important weaponry, including air defense assets, through the PURL initiative, which is funded by allies.
Ukrainian Participation and International Coordination
A key feature of the planned meeting will be the participation of Ukraine's new Defense Minister, Mykhailo Fedorov. Prior to the main 'Ramstein' session, an informal meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council will take place, along with a gathering of NATO member defense ministers. The 'Ramstein' meeting itself will be co-chaired by Germany and the United Kingdom.
Mark Rutte also countered claims of inaction, pointing to the diverse pressure the U.S. and European allies are applying on Russia through sanctions packages. He highlighted the consequences for companies like Lukoil and Rosneft, which have been impacted by these measures. Rutte further expressed the view that the only country capable of breaking the deadlock in relations with Russia is the United States, under President Trump's leadership, and suggested initiating a peace process.
'The Ukrainians are unwavering, they are fighting, but missiles continue to strike their civilian infrastructure and peaceful citizens.' - Mark Rutte
This meeting will mark a significant step in NATO's and its allies' continued support for Kyiv.
The upcoming 'Ramstein' format meeting is part of the Alliance's sustained effort to support Ukraine amid Russia's ongoing aggression. It underscores the vital role of international coordination in strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities and implementing sanctions against the aggressor. The participation of Ukraine's new defense minister signals Kyiv's readiness for active cooperation with international partners on security and defense matters.
