Taxi drivers face fines of up to 5100 hryvnias for refusing to speak Ukrainian

Fines for taxi drivers in Ukraine
Таксисти можуть отримати штрафи до 5100 гривень за відмову спілкуватися українською мовою.

Ukrainian taxi drivers who refuse to serve passengers in their native language will be punished with a fine ranging from 3400 to 5100 hryvnias. This information became known after Olena Ivanovska, the authorized representative for the protection of the state language, published it on her Facebook page.

The basis for such measures was a conflict situation in Kharkiv, where a taxi driver refused to serve a passenger in Ukrainian and failed to turn off Russian music in the car. According to Ivanovska, the man used propaganda statements and violated the rights of Russian-speaking citizens.

«The language for servicing passengers in transport is the state language», - emphasized the expert.

For violations of the language legislation, taxi drivers may face fines ranging from 3400 to 5100 hryvnias. Olena Ivanovska urged taxi services to be attentive to the language rights of passengers and to respond to citizens' complaints.

Report violations of language rights now through an electronic form on the website of the Authorized Representative for the Protection of the State Language, which will take necessary measures to resolve the issue and hold violators accountable.

The rules for the use of the state language in transport are becoming increasingly strict in Ukraine. Fines for taxi drivers who refuse to serve passengers in Ukrainian now amount to a significant sum. Drivers and taxi services must refrain from violating the language rights of citizens and respond to complaints in order to avoid penalties.
