Solotvyno Border Crossing Restrictions Extended Through May 2026 for Bridge Repairs
Traffic Restrictions at the Solotvyno – Sighetu Marmației Border Crossing
According to Главком: Restrictions on vehicle traffic at the Solotvyno – Sighetu Marmației border crossing have been extended due to ongoing reconstruction of the bridge over the Tisa River. The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine announced that these limitations will now remain in effect until May 15, 2026, inclusive. Starting April 15, 2026, temporary vehicle movement restrictions will be implemented, with vehicle processing temporarily suspended on weekdays between 09:00 and 16:00. This crossing is a key link between Ukraine's Zakarpattia region and Romania.
The initial temporary traffic restrictions were introduced on February 16. According to the Border Guard Service, citing information from the Romanian side, the extension is directly related to the continued reconstruction work on the Tisa River bridge. Pedestrian traffic at this crossing point will remain unrestricted throughout the construction period.
Reconstruction at Other Border Crossings
In a separate infrastructure project, reconstruction is also underway at the 'Bronnytsia – Unguri' crossing on the border with Moldova in the Vinnytsia region. The cost of this project exceeds 162 million hryvnias. Additionally, a new pedestrian crossing at the 'Uzhhorod – Vyšné Nemecké' checkpoint on the Ukrainian-Slovak border was officially opened on January 14.
Border officials urge citizens to consider this information when planning trips and, if possible, to choose alternative border crossing points to avoid inconvenience. These infrastructure upgrades across multiple borders are part of broader efforts to modernize Ukraine's frontier posts, which have seen increased traffic and logistical demands in recent years.
The extended restrictions at Solotvyno are part of large-scale infrastructure reconstruction work aimed at improving safety and crossing conditions. Travelers should account for these changes as they may significantly impact itineraries. The concurrent reconstruction at other crossings indicates an active push to upgrade border facilities, which is expected to improve overall crossing capacity and service in the future.
As the Solotvyno border crossing faces extended restrictions, it's important to note that similar situations are occurring at various border points. For instance, the upcoming Easter period has led to heightened traffic at the Polish border, prompting the deployment of new scanning equipment to enhance processing efficiency.
