Mandatory medical insurance for entry into Germany: cost in autumn 2025

In autumn 2025, medical insurance remains a mandatory requirement for the entry of Ukrainian citizens into Germany, despite the martial law. Border guards may check the presence of the policy in every case, and its absence threatens refusal of entry. This is explained by How2Go.

To enter Schengen Area countries, which includes Germany, there are unified standards for medical insurance. They are regulated by the EU Council Decision 2004/17. 

Requirements for medical insurance in Germany

The policy must meet key criteria:

• Coverage amount: at least 30,000 euros.

• Deductible: preferably from 0 to 100 euros (the amount that the tourist pays out of pocket before the insurance company begins to cover expenses).

• Geographical coverage: must cover all Schengen Area countries.

• Duration: must cover the entire period of stay abroad.

Cost of medical insurance policy in Germany

The price of the policy depends on the duration of the trip and the conditions chosen by the tourist. The most important factors are the size of the deductible and the presence of a service insurance company that provides assistance on the spot, rather than compensating costs after returning. Estimated prices for autumn 2025 are as follows:

• 7 days: from 300 UAH (with a deductible) to 500 UAH (without a deductible).

• 14 days: from 500 UAH to 900 UAH.

• 30 days: from 900 UAH to 1800 UAH.

• 90 days: from 2600 UAH to 3800 UAH.
