Oleh Adzhykaiev Accuses Tina Karol and BoomBox of Song Rights Theft
Dispute Erupts Over Songwriting Credits and Royalties
According to Главком: Musician and producer Oleh Adzhykaiev has publicly accused singer Tina Karol and the band BoomBox of seizing the rights to songs he co-wrote and withholding his royalties. Adzhykaiev, who served as the sound producer and co-writer for most tracks on BoomBox's album 'Secret Code: Rubicon,' stated he is preparing to take legal action and will release documents to substantiate his claims. Such disputes over intellectual property are not uncommon in the music industry, highlighting the complex financial relationships behind popular hits.
The conflict became public on the social network Threads. Adzhykaiev noted that songs he helped create have been removed from music platforms. He specifically cited the track 'Abyss,' a duet by BoomBox's Andrii Khlyvniuk and Tina Karol that was included on the album 'Find Your Own.' Despite his creative contribution, Adzhykaiev asserts he has received neither proper payment nor accounting for the song's use.
“These songs were created with my direct involvement as a co-author, were used in releases, and generated commercial revenue. Specifically, 'Abyss' – the duet by Andrii Khlyvniuk and Tina Karol – was included on the album 'Find Your Own,'” Adzhykaiev stated.
He further added: “As a co-author, I have received neither clear accounting nor due payment for the use of these works. This isn't about hurt feelings. It's about how someone else's work is exploited while the author is left without an answer to a simple question: Where is his share? It is because of this conflict that the use of some tracks is now halted, and they are unavailable on platforms.”
Adzhykaiev announced his intention to publicly detail the entire story with supporting evidence. “Going forward, I will publicly present this entire story – with documents and facts,” he emphasized. The musician also expressed concern about copyright management, noting that “it turns out fraud is happening not only at the level of authors and artists but also within the copyright management organization itself.”
Representatives for BoomBox and Tina Karol have not yet commented on the situation. Adzhykaiev remarked that after a prolonged silence and attempts to resolve the matter privately, he is now forced to publish all legal correspondence, requests, and responses, having uncovered a scheme to appropriate others' creative work. “I am not the only one in this situation; it's just that most people stay silent,” he concluded.
The Critical Issue of Copyright Protection
This case underscores the vital importance of respecting copyrights in the music industry and may spur wider discussions about transparency in rights management. Adzhykaiev aims not only to defend his own interests but also to draw attention to the challenges faced by other musicians. The lack of comment from Tina Karol and BoomBox could indicate an attempt to avoid escalating the conflict, but it may also be perceived as a lack of openness in artist relations.
This recent controversy is reminiscent of a similar scandal involving the misappropriation of rights in the 'Rubicon' album, where producers raised alarms over credit and revenue disputes. Such incidents underscore the ongoing challenges faced by artists in securing their rightful earnings and recognition in the competitive music industry.
