Pensions in Ukraine can be increased: three legal grounds for recalculation
Ukrainian pensioners are given the opportunity to increase their payments if certain circumstances change. Experts emphasize that the recalculation of pensions is not a one-time action, but a right that should be exercised when necessary.
Main grounds for recalculation
-
Salary growth after retirement. If a person continues to work and receives a higher salary after retirement, the Pension Fund may review the size of payments. Recalculation is possible every two years and allows maintaining the relevance of the pension amount considering new income.
-
Additional insurance experience. Pensioners who have not stopped working can expect an increase in their pension immediately after acquiring new experience by contacting the Pension Fund with updated information. Even a few additional months of work can positively affect the amount of payments.
-
Change in the minimum living wage. The amount of payments is automatically reviewed for non-working pensioners and after the completion of work activities for working pensioners. This is due to the linking of pensions to the minimum living wage for persons who have lost their ability to work.
Recalculation is also possible if new documents about income or experience are submitted, for establishing allowances for special merits, or in connection with the appointment of a pension after the loss of a breadwinner. For example, military pensioners may receive additional payments after updating certificates of monetary provision.
Pension indexation
The next pension indexation is planned for March 1, 2026. It is intended to compensate for the impact of inflation on the purchasing power of payments. The state budget for pension provision provides for over 1 trillion hryvnias, which will ensure stable payments for all categories of pensioners.
Experts recommend checking their experience and earnings through the electronic cabinet on the Pension Fund website, keeping copies of labor books, salary certificates, and information about insurance contributions. This can be a basis for increasing the pension.
