Legendary former Karpaty player has passed away

According to glavcom.ua: Stepan Fedorovych died at the age of 68. He was the top scorer in the USSR First League of 1979, scoring 42 goals in 42 matches for 'Karpaty' that year.

Today, July 10, legendary former footballer of Lviv's 'Karpaty' Stepan Yurchyshyn has passed away. This was reported by 'Hlavkom' citing the official website of the Lviv club.

As a player, he played 207 matches for 'Karpaty' (1978-1991) in all competitions, scoring 87 goals.

Yurchyshyn also led the Lviv club three times as head coach: in 1992, 1999, and 2001. From 2000 to 2005, he was part of the coaching staff of 'Karpaty'.

Tragic incident with a football star

It should be noted that Liverpool and Portugal national team player Diogo Jota died in a traffic accident. The tragedy occurred in the province of Zamora - on the 65th kilometer of the A-52 highway near the municipality of Palacios de Sanabria.

It is specified that the car in which 28-year-old Jota was traveling with his brother Andre (26, also a professional footballer) veered off the road and caught fire. According to eyewitnesses, the flames quickly engulfed the vehicle and spread to surrounding vegetation.

He is remembered by the football community as an outstanding attacking player who achieved numerous victories and goals.
