According to glavcom.ua: The famous Soviet figure skater and well-known State Duma deputy Irina Rodnina expressed her opinion on the decision of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) not to allow Russian athletes to participate in the Olympic selection. According to her, the Scandinavian countries showed their true position by voting against the participation of Russians and Belarusians in the qualifying competitions.

'It is not exactly FIS that prevented the Olympiad. They sent letters inquiring about the participation of Russian skiers. Here, it is primarily worth noting the Scandinavian countries that showed their true position. They lived well without our athletes for three years. Why should they ruin their atmosphere in the Olympic year'

The FIS council voted for athletes to compete in an individual neutral status (AIN) in the qualifying competitions for the 2026 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in Milan. This decision was made despite the fact that the International Olympic Committee proposed the AIN status as an opportunity for athletes from Russia and Belarus to participate in the qualifying competitions of the 2026 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.
