A border guard was arrested for a bribe of 9 thousand dollars: how he was smuggling evaders

The State Bureau of Investigations, together with the State Border Guard Service, prevented an attempt to transport military personnel across the border to Moldova for a fee. The organizer of the 'tour' turned out to be a border guard who decided to engage in corruption after a year of service.

'After a year of service in border protection, the official decided to turn this into a business. He was well aware of the duty schedules of his colleagues, the locations of border guard units’ service, and the peculiarities of the terrain. Thus, the suspect found two willing individuals to illegally cross the border for money. For 9 thousand USD, he promised to transport conscripts in his own vehicle to the Republic of Moldova outside the checkpoints,' the Bureau reported.

On September 24, 2025, law enforcement officers detained the official while receiving money from participants in the illegal border crossing. He has been notified of suspicion, and the possibility of selecting a preventive measure and his suspension from office is being verified.

The penalty provides for up to 9 years in prison with property confiscation, while the investigation continues into potential accomplices.
