PrivatBank Faces Fresh Controversy as Shovkovskiy Details Account Access Issues
PrivatBank Controversy
According to Главком: PrivatBank is embroiled in another public controversy after former Dynamo Kyiv goalkeeper and coach, and current Kyiv city council deputy, Oleksandr Shovkovskiy, described his ordeal while trying to collect a reissued bank card. Shovkovskiy visited a bank branch to pick up his new card but encountered technical failures and power outages that severely complicated the process.
While retrieving the card, Shovkovskiy was photographed twice in near-darkness. He then received a call to confirm a PIN change, but was immediately logged out of the Privat24 online system. His personal banker advised him to use a terminal or ATM for identification, promising to call back within 10 minutes with further instructions. However, no callback came for over an hour and a half, and the bank's mobile application was non-functional.
Shovkovskiy's attempts to reach his personal banker failed. He eventually had to relay a request for contact through his wife. Only then did a bank representative call, advising him to once again go through identification via a terminal or ATM to confirm his phone number. It is notable that Shovkovskiy has been a client of PrivatBank for 20 years.
Ongoing Service Problems at the Bank
This incident is not the first scandal for the bank. Previously, PrivatBank refused to issue a bank card to a wounded soldier, citing the serviceman's physical inability to complete the identification procedure. This situation was reported by Yelyna Tolkachova, head of the Patronage Service of the Angels charity. PrivatBank later stated it was prepared to cover the treatment and prosthetics for the 20-year-old soldier with amputations.
“The situation with Oleksandr Shovkovskiy highlights the problems faced by PrivatBank's clients, particularly regarding identification and customer service.” - Yelyna Tolkachova
Such cases raise serious concerns about the level of customer service and system reliability, which could significantly damage the bank's reputation. In the context of modern challenges related to the security and accessibility of banking services, financial institutions must find effective solutions to improve client support. As one of Ukraine's largest banks, its operational issues affect a significant portion of the population.
