Trump's Proposals for Peace: What Ukraine Will Give Up for a Deal with Russia
According to Студия Руслана Бизяева: The negotiation process for ending the war in Ukraine, currently described as a triangle of Ukraine-USA-Russia, is entering a decisive phase. Former US President Donald Trump stated that the parties are 'very close to peace'. It has been reported that the visit of Trump administration representatives to Moscow ahead of the meeting in Abu Dhabi led to the emergence of a new compromise plan from Russia.
According to this plan, Crimea, parts of the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions, as well as the Luhansk region, which Russia de facto controls, are considered non-negotiable issues. The Donetsk region remains the subject of negotiations. As Senator Marco Rubio noted in his comment:
“Let’s close the last issue and wrap up the deal as a whole.” - Marco Rubio
However, the Ukrainian side categorically disagrees with such conditions. President Volodymyr Zelensky clearly stated: 'We will not give up Donbas and Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant without a fight'. His position has been confirmed in the Kremlin, which emphasized that the Zaporizhzhia NPP 'has been under the control of the Russian Federation for over 2 years.'
European Defense Capability
Against the backdrop of these negotiations, the question of Europe’s defense capability arises in the event of a possible withdrawal of the US from an active role. Estimates suggest that to replace American troops, Europe needs to create:
- 50 brigades costing 8-9 billion euros;
- 1400 tanks;
- 2000 armored infantry vehicles;
- dozens of self-propelled artillery systems.
However, sociological surveys in Germany show that only 23 out of 100 people would agree to serve in the event of a general mobilization.
