Reliant UAV by Quantum-Systems Debuts Armed with Mortar Shells and Grenades
Quantum-Systems Unveils Armed Reliant Drone
According to НВ — Техно: Quantum-Systems has introduced an armed variant of its Reliant unmanned aerial vehicle, capable of deploying 82mm mortar rounds and 40mm grenades. This drone features vertical takeoff and landing capabilities, a wingspan of 3.9 meters, and can operate autonomously for over 10 hours. Powered by a hybrid-electric system, the Reliant has a maximum takeoff weight of 45 kilograms. It is also integrated with the MOSAIC UXS software, enabling command and control across multiple types of unmanned systems.
The Reliant can carry the Archer strike drone, which has been procured in large quantities by the Pentagon. The US Marine Corps has already conducted flights of Archer equipped with warheads in Japan. As the flagship model in Quantum-Systems’ drone lineup, Reliant precedes the Twister and Vector models. Notably, the Vector drone has logged over 20,000 combat hours in Ukraine, surviving missions despite sustaining 11 hits from small arms fire.
Advancements in Drone Technology
On October 28, 2024, Dave Sharpin, CEO of Quantum-Systems Inc., shared images of the Reliant’s configuration on social media. The company has expanded its production capabilities in Ukraine, manufacturing Vector fuselages, and has offered the Reliant to both German and American military forces.
Additionally, at the Future Forces Forum 2026 in Prague, Czech firm STV Group showcased the new FPV-NG multirotor drone, notable for its lack of Chinese components. This event highlighted the growing global interest in unmanned aerial technology.
Innovations in drone technology, particularly those introduced by Quantum-Systems, reflect intense competition within the defense sector. With increasing demand for advanced military and autonomous systems, these developments could significantly shape future combat strategies. The active manufacturing presence in Ukraine emphasizes the country's emerging role as a key player in the global defense industry.
The introduction of the Reliant drone by Quantum-Systems underscores a significant shift in military drone capabilities. In parallel, the recent unveiling of the new FPV-NG multirotor drone by STV Group, which is designed without any Chinese components, highlights the increasing focus on self-sufficiency in defense technology. As competition intensifies, these advancements are crucial for modern military operations.
