According to Главком: On January 2, 2023, Kharkiv became a victim of rocket strikes, resulting in the deaths of two people and five missing. The bodies of a three-year-old boy and a 22-year-old woman were retrieved from the rubble. Additionally, about 30 citizens were injured, including a six-month-old boy.
The rocket strikes caused significant damage:
- 25 apartment buildings were affected;
- the buildings of a hospital, an educational institution, and a commercial-office building were damaged;
- 33 vehicles were damaged;
- the Kharkiv and Kupiansk districts were under fire.
The attack was carried out by the Russian army targeting the city center of Kharkiv.
Andriy Sybiha noted that Ukraine expects a tough international reaction to these events.
The situation in the region remains tense, and law enforcement agencies continue to work on the investigation of the shelling.
These rocket strikes are part of a prolonged escalation of violence in Ukraine that has been ongoing since the beginning of the conflict. They highlight not only the humanitarian crisis but also the need to strengthen international support for Ukraine.
