Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Russia deliberately attacked nuclear safety facilities
According to glavcom.ua: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine notes that the mass attack by Russia on November 8 was deliberately aimed at facilities ensuring nuclear safety. According to the head of the Ministry, Andriy Sibiga, substations supplying the Khmelnytsky and Rivne nuclear power plants were hit, reports "Glavkom".
Sibiga stated that these nighttime strikes were not accidental but results of well-planned actions: "Russia consciously threatens the nuclear safety of Europe," the minister emphasized.
Due to the danger posed by such actions, Ukraine calls for the urgent convening of a meeting of the IAEA Board of Directors so that the organization can respond as quickly as possible to potential risks. Sibiga also urged to strengthen global political pressure to counter nuclear blackmail from Moscow.
Consequences of the mass attack
Furthermore, the minister addressed states that play a key role in nuclear safety, particularly China and India, urging them to use their influence on the Kremlin and demand an immediate halt to strikes on critical nuclear energy facilities. He stated that Russia's actions could provoke catastrophic consequences.
Let us remind you that on the night of November 8, Russia attacked Ukraine, striking the energy infrastructure and residential areas. As a result, Russians suffered losses, and emergency power outages were introduced in some regions.
The head of the regional military administration, Volodymyr Kogut, confirms that the attack by Russian troops on the energy system on November 8 led to serious problems with electricity, heating, and water supplies in Poltava and the surrounding area. Additionally, all thermal power plants of Public Joint Stock Company "Tsentrenergo" were shut down due to the attack on the energy sector on the night of November 8.
Russia's attack on nuclear safety facilities in Ukraine has raised serious concern in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The minister called on the international community to respond and unite to counter such actions and prevent large-scale consequences. The statement from the Ministry also emphasized the importance of global oversight of nuclear safety and the necessity of supporting international standards in this area.
