Russia attacked Poland's energy system: millions were on the brink of blackout
Cyberattack on Poland's Energy Infrastructure
According to Главком: Poland's Minister of Digitalization Krzysztof Kwiatkowski reported a cyberattack by Russia on the country's energy infrastructure that took place in late 2025. This attack could have led to a blackout, threatening the power supply of millions of citizens. Kwiatkowski noted that the attack on the energy infrastructure was the most serious in recent times, and the country was very close to a massive power outage.
In December 2025, power generation facilities were targeted by cyberattacks. Meanwhile, a Russian citizen was arrested for three months for unauthorized interference in the information systems of Polish companies. Data from the prosecution indicate this individual’s involvement in cybercriminal activities not only in Poland but also in other European Union countries.
Response to Cyberattacks
Additionally, government portals and websites of defense companies in Denmark also suffered DDoS attacks. Krzysztof Kwiatkowski emphasized that everything points to Russian sabotage, aimed at destabilizing the situation in Poland. He assured that the country has well-prepared institutions to counter such threats and called for calm.
Cyberattacks on Poland's energy infrastructure highlight the rise of cyber threats in the region, especially from Russia, which has repeatedly attempted to destabilize neighboring states. The response of the Polish government and its readiness to counter such threats are key aspects of the country's security, particularly in the context of the current geopolitical situation in Europe. These events also raise questions about the joint efforts of EU countries in combating cybercrime and protecting critical infrastructure.
