Passenger Train Targeted in Kharkiv Region
According to Главком: A Russian attack using three Shahed-type drones struck a passenger train in Ukraine's Kharkiv region, resulting in the deaths of at least four people. The incident occurred near the village of Yazykove in the Izium district. The train, operating on the Chop-Kharkiv-Barvinkove route, was hit by the unmanned aerial vehicles. This attack on civilian rail infrastructure is part of a pattern of strikes that have intensified since Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022.
The assault involved two strikes near the train and a direct hit on a passenger carriage, which caught fire. Four people were killed in the attack. Two passengers, a 29-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman, were hospitalized with injuries. The carriage that suffered the direct impact was carrying 18 people, while the entire train had over 200 passengers on board.
Search Operations and Aftermath
Rescue teams are continuing search operations at the scene, as several individuals remain missing and others are wounded. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the toll, stating,
“four people died as a result of the attack”
. The situation remains tense, with law enforcement agencies working to establish the full circumstances of the tragedy.
This strike is part of the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, which has continued since 2014. The use of drones to target civilian objects raises serious concerns for the safety of non-combatants, particularly in vulnerable regions. The incident underscores the urgent need for enhanced protection of infrastructure and passenger security within Ukraine's transportation system.
