Massive attack on sports infrastructure in Ukraine
According to Главком: On the night of the new year 2023, Russia carried out a massive attack that led to the destruction of sports infrastructure in Kyiv region. The primary target was the ice arena 'Bilyi Bars' in Bila Tserkva, which was built in 2012. As a result of the shelling, the damage area of the roof and internal premises of the arena exceeded 3300 square meters.
The ice arena 'Bilyi Bars' could accommodate 433 spectators, but its condition is now critical. The shelling also resulted in the injury of five civilians who could have been close to the arena at the time of the attack. The attack caused the halt of the nationwide tournament in memory of Oleksandr Koloniuk, which was taking place at this arena.
Impact on sports infrastructure
In addition, in Cherkasy, due to the shelling, the athletic facility 'Manezh' was damaged. These events underscore the growing consequences of military actions for sports infrastructure in Ukraine, which is suffering significant losses amid the conflict.
This attack demonstrates not only the destruction of physical infrastructure but also the impact on the country's sports life, which has already suffered from numerous military actions. Sporting events held in Ukraine are becoming increasingly dangerous, and restoring damaged facilities will require considerable efforts and resources. This also highlights the need to protect cultural and sports assets during conflict, which is crucial for maintaining the morale of society.
