Drone Strikes by Russia Injure Civilians in Zaporizhzhia and Chernihiv Regions
Strikes Target Zaporizhzhia and Chernihiv Regions
According to Главком: Russian military forces conducted drone attacks on Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia and Chernihiv regions, resulting in civilian casualties and significant damage to infrastructure. These assaults are part of a broader pattern of strikes on civilian areas far from the front lines. In a Zaporizhzhia district, the assault on a populated area injured four people, including one teenager, and ignited fires that damaged two houses, an outbuilding, a car, and a low-pressure gas pipeline. The residential buildings sustained partial damage from blast waves and debris.
Emergency services quickly extinguished the fires, and psychologists from the State Emergency Service provided aid to eight people affected by the attack. Meanwhile, in the city of Zaporizhzhia itself, a separate massed Russian bombardment increased the total number of injured there to ten. The casualties in Zaporizhzhia city included:
- an eight-year-old child
- five women
- four men
This attack on the city damaged 19 apartment blocks, four private houses, and several non-residential structures.
Strikes on Novhorod-Siverskyi
In a further escalation, on the evening of February 26, Russian forces also launched drone strikes on the center of Novhorod-Siverskyi in the Chernihiv region, where at least two impacts were recorded. These coordinated attacks underscore the widening geographic scope of the conflict and the growing threat to civilians across Ukraine.
“These attacks highlight the continuation of active hostilities in Ukraine and their impact on the safety of ordinary citizens.”
Given the scale of the destruction and the number of injured, the situation in these regions remains critical, requiring urgent action by state authorities to protect the population and restore essential infrastructure.
