Forecasts on Russia’s Next Moves in the War Against Ukraine

According to Radiotrek — Світ: On July 18, 2026, analyst Serhiy Hromenko published forecasts and assessments regarding Russia’s future actions in its war against Ukraine. Experts estimate a 90% likelihood of a large-scale mobilization in Russia, potentially occurring in late September or early October. At the same time, a renewed campaign of missile strikes targeting Ukraine’s civilian energy infrastructure is anticipated, signaling an escalation of the conflict.

According to Hromenko,

“for the first time since 1999, the ordinary Russian civilian has felt the war firsthand.”

This may be linked to strikes on Russian oil refineries, which he calls ‘the most effective actions by Ukraine in the past four years.’ Putin,

“because of this, as well as diplomatic failures, has finally dug in his heels and will push for escalation.”

Mobilization and Likely Consequences

The decisive battle for Donbas is forecast to occur no later than December 1. Hromenko notes that ‘mobilization in Russia will be announced in late September or early October,’ but adds that ‘it is unlikely to force Ukraine to capitulate.’ He assesses the probability of nuclear weapon use as zero, and the likelihood of an attack on the Baltic states at 10%.

“I hope this is already the death throes of Putin’s aggression,” the article’s author states. If Russian forces fail to break through the front line, “a freeze of the war would shift from hypothetical to a real option.”

These forecasts point to a further escalation of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which will likely create new challenges for regional security. Given the potential rise in military activity and mobilization in Russia, Ukraine must prepare for fresh threats, while the international community should brace for responses to these developments. The situation remains tense, and events in the coming months could significantly shape the war’s trajectory and the broader geopolitical landscape.

As the situation intensifies, Ukraine is not standing still. President Zelensky has recently announced a new drone offensive aimed at increasing pressure on Russian forces. This strategic move comes in the wake of anticipated mobilization efforts by Russia, highlighting the ongoing escalation in the conflict.
