Civilian Areas and Infrastructure Hit as Russian Forces Strike 25 Settlements in Sumy Region
Shelling Targets Sumy and Chernihiv Regions
According to Главком: Russian military forces shelled settlements in the Sumy and Chernihiv regions over the past day, also launching a drone strike on the Mykolaiv community. These attacks resulted in damage to civilian infrastructure and injuries among the population. Criminal proceedings have been initiated in relation to all these incidents. The border regions of northern Ukraine face daily artillery and drone attacks, creating a constant threat to local communities.
In the Sumy region, Russian troops targeted 25 separate settlements, including areas within these territorial communities:
- Sumy
- Konotop
- Khutir-Mykhailivska
- Velykopysarivska
- Seredyno-Budska
- Znob-Novhorodska
The assault damaged apartment blocks and private houses, gas stations, farm buildings, garages, and vehicles. Furthermore, a drone strike in the Mykolaiv rural community injured three people: men aged 26 and 52, and a 49-year-old woman.
Critical Infrastructure Struck in Chernihiv
On March 29, Russian occupying forces struck the city of Chernihiv, hitting a critical infrastructure facility. The Chernihiv City Council confirmed the attack, stating:
"The enemy struck a critical infrastructure facility within the city of Chernihiv. Details are being clarified."
Over the last seven days, the aggressor has launched 3,000 drones and 1,450 aerial bombs across Ukraine, indicating a significant escalation in hostilities. Investigators have opened criminal cases under Article 438 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code for all the aforementioned attacks.
These recent Russian military actions underscore the mounting tension in the region and the enemy's efforts to intensify aggression against Ukraine. The damage to civilian infrastructure and injuries among the population highlight the severe consequences of these actions for non-combatants. The opening of criminal proceedings under Article 438 illustrates ongoing efforts by Ukrainian law enforcement to document potential war crimes and hold perpetrators accountable.
As the situation escalates, the recent shelling in the Sumy and Chernihiv regions is part of a broader pattern of aggression that has targeted multiple areas across Ukraine.
