Strikes Against Civilian Trucks

According to Главком: Since the start of June, Russia has been deploying drones to attack civilian trucks along the highway connecting Kharkiv and Sumy, particularly near Bohodukhiv-located just 20 kilometers from the Ukrainian-Russian border. Defense Ministry Advisor Serhiy Bezrestnov confirmed these assaults on transport links, warning that they signal a dangerous new trend. A released video shows a destroyed truck and a damaged trailer on the roadside of the Kharkiv–Sumy route, a vital transport corridor in northern Ukraine.

Shift in Russian Tactics

These logistics-focused attacks stem from changes in Russian command strategy. Due to ongoing losses, Russian forces have begun using civilian trucks to transport fuel, primarily at night. Bezrestnov emphasized the growing threat:

“Unfortunately, we are not the only ones who understand the importance of targeting logistics. Since the beginning of the month, the enemy has started attacking transport links between Kharkiv and Sumy.” - Serhiy Bezrestnov

In early June, the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Third Army Corps conducted operations against Russian rear logistics in Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Ukrainian drones flew missions to Donetsk, destroying several military trucks, armored vehicles, and cargo carriers, while also striking key Russian supply routes in the south. These developments highlight how control over transport corridors has become a decisive factor in the conflict.

The targeting of vehicles reflects escalating tensions in the region and a tactical shift by both sides. Gaining control over logistics routes is now critical for supplying troops and resources, which could shape the course of future combat. The situation on the Kharkiv–Sumy highway illustrates how strategic changes can have far-reaching consequences for all parties involved.

The ongoing conflict has not only intensified in the Kharkiv–Sumy region but is also reflecting broader tactical shifts across Ukraine. As Ukrainian forces impose a logistics lockdown on roads in occupied southern areas, the strategic importance of controlling transport routes becomes increasingly evident. This escalation underscores the need for vigilance and adaptation in military logistics, as both sides seek to secure vital supply lines.
