Russia has been conducting disinformation operations for over 80 years: expert reveals main goal
According to hvylya.net: Canadian expert Marcus Kolga stated that Russia has been conducting influence operations for decades aimed at justifying the country's imperial ambitions. These information operations are designed to legitimize Moscow's imperial aspirations, with the main goal, according to the expert, remaining unchanged since the Cold War.
'The main goal has remained unchanged since the Cold War – to legitimize Russia's imperial ambitions. The classic tactic is to label anyone who opposes Soviet domination as a 'neo-Nazi', devaluing and dehumanizing entire communities.'
The expert also noted that Russia actively influences public opinion in Western countries, including Canada, through disinformation operations. Instructions for destabilizing democracies even reach contractors involved in exacerbating divisions through misinformation.
Propaganda from Moscow is also used to suppress dissent within Russia itself and maintain Putin's power. The expert's statements highlight the systemic nature of Russian propaganda's activities aimed at undermining democratic institutions in various countries.
Kolga emphasizes that Russian propaganda works hard to undermine democracy and spread disinformation in both international and domestic political arenas, which potentially threatens the national security of several countries.
