Losses of the Russian army in previous years
In previous years of the war against Ukraine, the Russian army also suffered significant losses. In 2022, total losses amounted to 106.7 thousand soldiers, in 2023 - 253 thousand, and in 2024 - nearly 431 thousand occupiers. Thus, from the beginning of the invasion to the end of 2025, the total losses of Russian troops reached 1.2 million.
In addition to human losses, Ukrainian warriors struck more than 14 thousand enemy artillery systems in 2025. Overall, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the Russian army has lost 35.6 thousand artillery systems. In 2025, about 40 thousand units of enemy vehicle equipment were recorded, while the Defense Forces struck 72.4 thousand units of enemy vehicles in total. During the war, over 10 thousand Russian invaders have been captured, with an average of 60 to 90 occupiers surrendering each week.
Data on the losses of Russian troops indicate serious problems in their military campaign and significant pressure faced by the army amid the ongoing conflict. The dynamics of losses may indicate the growing effectiveness of Ukrainian defense forces, which, in turn, may influence the strategy and tactics of military operations on both sides.
This information also highlights the importance of support from international partners for Ukraine in its fight for territorial integrity and security.
