Widespread Assault Across Ukraine
According to Главком: In the early hours of February 26, Russian forces launched a coordinated, multi-pronged assault across Ukraine, targeting the Poltava region, Kyiv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Kryvyi Rih. The strikes in the Poltava region hit industrial facilities and private homes, damaging technological equipment, production sites, a private residence, and power lines. All fires ignited by the bombardment were extinguished. There were no initial reports of casualties.
Targets and Consequences of the Assault
The attack focused on critical infrastructure and military-industrial sites, including:
- Electrical substations;
- An airfield;
- A combined heat and power plant (CHPP);
- Thermal power stations (TPS);
- Military-industrial complex facilities.
In Kyiv's Darnytskyi district, a nine-story residential building was damaged. Kharkiv also came under attack by drones and missiles, with strikes reported in the Shevchenkivskyi, Kyivskyi, Saltivskyi, and Slobidskyi districts. This latest barrage is part of a sustained Russian campaign targeting Ukraine's energy grid and civilian areas.
In Kryvyi Rih, the number of injured rose to two, identified as an 82-year-old woman and an 89-year-old man. The situation in the affected regions remains tense, though further consequences of the attack are not yet fully known.
This attack underscores the continuation of Russia's military aggression against Ukraine, now in its second year.
The strikes on civilian infrastructure and industrial sites point to a strategy aimed at destabilizing the economy and disrupting daily life for the population. With the increasing frequency of attacks on major cities and regions, monitoring the ongoing situation and the Ukrainian government's response to these challenges is crucial.
