Russian Drone Strike on Zhytomyr Police Building Kills Two Officers
Attack on Zhytomyr
According to Рубрика — Суспільство: On August 19, Russian forces attacked Zhytomyr with jet-propelled drones. The strike, carried out with Banderol-type unmanned aerial vehicles, hit the building of the National Police Main Directorate in the Zhytomyr region. The cynical assault killed two police officers and left at least 20 people wounded.
The attack happened during daylight hours. Police officers, rescue workers, and other emergency responders were present at the scene. The impact started a fire on the roof and the fourth floor of the building. Ukraine's National Police reported the incident on Telegram, citing acting director Maksym Tsutskiridze.
"Zhytomyr came under a cynical attack by Russian forces - the enemy struck with Banderol drones. This strike took the lives of two police officers. At least 20 people were injured," Tsutskiridze said.
He also stressed that the enemy deliberately targets people who work every day to keep others safe. "Today, the Main National Police Directorate in the Zhytomyr region came under fire. The shelling caused a fire on the roof and the fourth floor," he added.
Tsutskiridze called the attack another manifestation of the real nature of Russian aggression - terror aimed at civilians and the people defending them. He thanked police officers, saying that despite pain and loss, they remain at their posts, continue helping people, and preserve the country's security.
Ukraine's broader situation
This attack is a stark reminder of the difficult situation in Ukraine, where ongoing hostilities cause severe harm to civilians and law enforcement alike. Strikes on key institutions such as the National Police show that Russian aggression continues to threaten stability. The response of Ukrainian security forces to these challenges is essential for maintaining public order and safety in wartime. It also underscores the broader toll of a war that increasingly targets the institutions meant to protect people.
