According to Главком: On June 1, a Russian drone exploded near a maternity hospital in the city of Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi, located in the Odesa region. Thanks to a swift evacuation, no casualties were reported. This marks the second time during the full-scale war that a maternity and obstetric-gynecology unit has come under attack.
Inside the Maternity Ward During the Attack
At the time of the strike, the maternity facility housed six women in labor and six children. Among them, one woman was actively giving birth, and two others were under medical observation in the pathology department. The hospital staff responded quickly, moving everyone to a secure basement shelter. No one was injured, and no medical or psychological assistance was required.
Vitaliy Zhnyakin, a hospital representative: 'During the shelling, there were six mothers and six children in the maternity ward. One woman was in the middle of giving birth. Two other women were being monitored in the pathology department. Fortunately, no one was hurt. No one needed medical or psychological help. The staff reacted exactly as they should have. Everyone was in the shelter.'
Amid the tense situation, a baby girl weighing 2.7 kg was born. The explosion caused damage to the maternity ward and administrative buildings of the hospital, but due to the effective actions of the personnel, human casualties were avoided.
