Russian sport in deep crisis: coach admitted isolation due to war
According to glavcom.ua: Russian coach Sergey Klevtsov, who works with famous athlete Sergey Shubenkov, stated that Russian athletes are far behind in world athletics. 'In deep trouble,' he noted, explaining that they have not had the opportunity to compete at the international level for a long time. The last serious tournament they could participate in took place six years ago - the World Championship in Doha-2019.
The reason for this is that Russian athletes were suspended from international competitions due to Russia's aggression against Ukraine. This issue remains relevant today, as many Russian athletes are under sanctions. Recently, players from Moscow's CSKA Matvey Kislyak and Kirill Glebov appeared in the database of the 'Mirotvorets' website, recognized as accomplices in the crimes of the Russian authorities against Ukraine and war propagandists.
The coach's comments reveal the overall picture of how sanctions against Russian athletes affect their competitiveness in global sports. The gap in opportunities for international appearances significantly impacts the performance and development of athletes' sports careers and has a comprehensive impact on the sports industry in Russia as a whole.
