Airline tickets may become more expensive by summer 2027: Ryanair CEO Michael O'Leary links this to rising oil prices. He did not specify the extent of the increase. Costs for carriers are already being impacted by fuel prices and a reduction in some Ryanair flights. The Sun reports on this here. Previously, the company had already cut winter flights due to fuel costs.

Why air ticket prices may rise by summer 2027

O'Leary stated that the fares of Ryanair and other airlines are likely to increase significantly by summer 2027. The reason he cited is the substantially higher cost of oil. However, the carrier did not clarify how much the prices could change.

Several factors may impact ticket prices:

  • Fuel prices. If oil and aviation fuel remain expensive, the costs for airlines will rise.

  • Fuel contracts. Some carriers have locked in fuel prices in advance, but such contracts have a limited duration. If the crisis in the Middle East prolongs, buying fuel after the agreements end may be more expensive.

Carriers may pass part of the additional costs onto fares. Previously, Ryanair had already warned of increasing prices for cheap tickets, but the current forecast pertains to flights until next summer.

Should you buy airline tickets in advance?

Those who are already planning a trip for 2027 can keep an eye on prices and booking conditions in advance. Early purchase sometimes allows finding a cheaper fare, but this is not a guarantee: the cost depends on the route, date, demand, and policies of the specific carrier.

O'Leary did not specify the exact percentage of the increase, so the forecast does not mean that all tickets will necessarily rise in price by the same amount. For comparison, passengers should check the offers of different airlines and consider additional fees for baggage, seat selection, and other services. Promotions are also appearing on the market, such as discounts on LOT, airBaltic, and Vueling flights.
