Ryanair changes check-in and baggage drop-off rules at airports in 2026: what does this affect
Ryanair airline changes the rules for check-in and baggage drop-off at airports. The new requirements will come into effect on November 10, 2026, and will affect passengers' arrival times before departure. This is reported by Ryanair.
Ryanair Check-In Rules: When Check-In Will Close
The main change is the extension of the check-in and baggage drop-off time.
From now on:
-
check-in and baggage drop-off will close 60 minutes before departure;
-
this deadline was previously 40 minutes.
The company explains that the decision is related to the growth of passenger traffic and the load on airports. The new rules are intended to reduce the number of delays for flights due to queues at security and passport control.
Ryanair Baggage Drop-Off: How New Systems Will Work
At the same time, the carrier is expanding the use of self-service kiosks. By October 2026, they plan to install them in over 95% of the airport network.
The kiosks allow:
-
to self-register baggage;
-
to print baggage tags;
-
to pass through the procedure faster without staff involvement.
The system is integrated with the airline's mobile app, simplifying the process for passengers.
According to the carrier's estimates, the changes mainly concern about 20% of customers traveling with baggage. For most passengers flying only with hand luggage, the rules remain unchanged: online check-in and direct access to security control.
At the same time, even they are recommended to consider the new timeframes as the overall time spent at the airport may increase.
It should be noted that Ryanair has announced a significant reduction of its presence in France starting from early 2026. The low-cost airline will cease flights to several French cities due to unfavorable economic conditions.
