Arrest of Russian businessman for financing RF
В Україні затримали російського бізнесмена з активами на 1,2 мільйона доларів за підозрою у фінансуванні військових дій Росії.

Assets of Vadim Zarubin Seized

According to Главком: The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has seized assets belonging to Russian businessman Vadim Zarubin, valued at over 50 million Ukrainian hryvnias (approximately $1.2 million). Zarubin has been formally notified in absentia of suspicion under Part 4 of Article 110-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which carries a potential penalty of 10 years' imprisonment with confiscation of property. The SBU alleges he used profits from his Ukrainian business ventures to purchase drones and off-road vehicles for the Russian military. This action is part of Ukraine's ongoing legal efforts to target economic support for the Russian war effort.

Details of the Seizure

The court-ordered seizure targets 13 commercial real estate properties, including offices and warehouses, as well as corporate rights to 8 mining companies holding licenses to develop Ukrainian mineral resources. Among the seized assets is an abrasive materials plant in the Kirovohrad region, one of the largest such enterprises in the area, which reportedly continued to generate revenue for its owner after the full-scale invasion began. The court's ruling aims to prevent attempts to transfer ownership and paves the way for potential future nationalization of the assets.

The investigation further established that Zarubin set up a mechanism to funnel money from Ukraine to Russia through controlled offshore and Russian companies. In a related development during the same operation, SBU counterintelligence prevented a planned terrorist attack in the center of Kropyvnytskyi. They detained an FSB agent who was allegedly preparing to assassinate a local official responsible for civil defense training in the Kirovohrad region. The agent was apprehended after conducting reconnaissance at the planned attack site, where he intended to detonate an improvised explosive device near a local cafe.

The seizure of the businessman's assets and the detention of the FSB agent highlight the persistent security threats within Ukraine and the state's efforts to ensure national security. These events may also influence Ukraine's investment climate by demonstrating the government's commitment to tackling corruption and criminal activity linked to the conflict.
