Suspicion against the head of Chechnya for using Ukrainian prisoners of war

The Main Investigative Department of the Security Service of Ukraine officially announced suspicion against the head of the Chechen Republic, Ramzan Kadyrov. He is accused of violating the laws and customs of war, in particular, using Ukrainian prisoners of war as

human shields

. This was reported by 'Gromadske' citing the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.

According to the SBU, Kadyrov, after a series of strikes by the Armed Forces of Ukraine on military facilities in Chechnya, personally ordered to detain Ukrainian prisoners of war.

Events in Chechnya and Kadyrov's actions

On October 20, 2024, a Ukrainian drone struck the Russian Special Forces University in Gudermes, where Chechen fighters are trained for participation in the war against Ukraine. After this, Kadyrov publicly stated that his fighters would not take Ukrainian soldiers captive.

In December 2024, the Armed Forces of Ukraine dealt new strikes on a number of military facilities in Chechnya, including the building of the A. Kadyrov Special Purpose Regiment.

Following these events, Ramzan Kadyrov, according to the investigation, ensured the detention of at least 200 Ukrainian prisoners of war in the premises of the road patrol service regiments and in the Rosgvardiya Administration for the Chechen Republic.

Thus, the detention of prisoners of war in the locations of law enforcement agencies is considered to be their use for the protection of these facilities.

It is noteworthy that Turkish publications spread information that the ally of the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov, almost drowned while vacationing in a hotel in Turkish Bodrum. However, there is still no official confirmation from the politician himself.

Kadyrov almost drowned at sea while vacationing in the Turkish province of Mugla. The incident occurred on the beach of the five-star hotel The Plaza in the Kaynar area of the city of Bodrum.

The suspicion against the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, for using Ukrainian prisoners of war as 'human shields' is a serious accusation that may have serious consequences for relations between Ukraine and Chechnya. This case has caused outrage among the Ukrainian public and may become the subject of attention from international human rights organizations.
