Drone Strike Targets Alchevsk Metallurgical Plant

According to Главком: In a joint operation, Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) and the Unmanned Aerial Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have struck the Alchevsk Metallurgical Plant, located in temporarily occupied territory. The attack, carried out using kamikaze drones, has resulted in a complete shutdown of production at the facility. This marks the second successful strike on this key industrial target within the past month.

The operation, conducted on 04.04.2026, utilized FP-2 drones manufactured by Fire Point. The strike inflicted significant damage on critical infrastructure, including:

  • Blast furnaces
  • Key production workshops
  • Distillation columns
  • Gas pipelines
  • Electrical substations

Official sources report that the plant's output is supplied to Russia's Uralvagonzavod factory, a major defense contractor producing military equipment for the Russian army, including T-90M Proryv tanks and Msta-S self-propelled howitzers. This supply chain makes the plant a strategic target for Ukrainian forces seeking to disrupt Russia's war machine.

“Drone strikes have halted production at the Alchevsk Metallurgical Plant. The enterprise's products are supplied to the Russian Uralvagonzavod plant, where military equipment for the Russian army is manufactured, specifically T-90M Proryv tanks and Msta-S howitzers.”

This latest strike follows another recent attack on critical infrastructure. On 02.04.2026, the Novy-Ufimsky Oil Refinery was also targeted, resulting in a major fire and the shutdown of one of its largest crude oil processing units.

Escalating Activity by Ukrainian Forces

The continuation of these attacks signals a growing campaign by Ukrainian forces to target military-industrial production supporting the Russian armed forces. Successful strikes on key infrastructure in occupied territories could significantly impact the supply of resources needed for combat operations, representing a crucial element in the broader strategy to degrade Russian logistical capabilities in the ongoing conflict.

In light of the recent drone strike on the Alchevsk Metallurgical Plant, it is important to note that similar operations have significantly impacted Russia's energy sector. For instance, a recent attack on the Novy-Ufimsky Oil Refinery resulted in a major fire and the shutdown of one of its key processing units. Such coordinated strikes illustrate a broader strategy by Ukrainian forces to disrupt critical infrastructure supporting military operations.
