According to Главком: The Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) has detained a resident of Sloviansk on suspicion of state treason. According to the SBU, the suspect was gathering coordinates for potential strikes on the city and transmitting this intelligence to Russian forces. The unemployed woman first came to the attention of counterintelligence through her activity in pro-Kremlin Telegram channels. This arrest highlights the persistent threat of espionage networks operating within Ukraine's borders.

The agent was tasked with collecting geolocation data on the positions of Ukrainian Defense Forces personnel and equipment. To accomplish this, she made daily visits to a local store, attempting to casually encounter military personnel and covertly extract information about their bases. Upon returning home, she would conduct reconnaissance near potential targets and later mark them on Google Maps to file reports to Russia.

Consequences of the Arrest

SBU counterintelligence officers detained the woman at her residence. During a search, a smartphone containing evidence of her criminal activity was seized. Investigators have formally notified her of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for treason committed under martial law. She is currently in custody without the right to post bail and faces a potential sentence of life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The Security Service of Ukraine stated that the agent's detention prevented a potential terrorist attack on Ukrainian Defense Forces facilities. The SBU also reports that the woman was involved in planning the destruction of a building belonging to a Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center near the front line. This case underscores the critical role of counterintelligence in safeguarding national security during wartime.
