Dasha Malakhova's Son Diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes

According to Главком: Ukrainian actress and TV presenter Dasha Malakhova has shared that her eldest son, Matviy, has been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. The child was hospitalized, but his condition has now stabilized. The family is adapting to a new lifestyle to manage the chronic condition.

Malakhova explained that a comprehensive blood test taken several days ago revealed critically high blood sugar levels, fluctuating between 12 and 32 mmol/L. Matviy, who is 175 cm tall, also experienced sudden weight loss, dropping to 50 kilograms, and had acetone present. Malakhova clarified that this is Type 1 diabetes, an insulin-dependent form requiring constant glucose monitoring and insulin therapy. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune condition where the body stops producing insulin, and it is often diagnosed in childhood.

The family has already switched to an appropriate dietary regimen, and Matviy plans to return to his studies. Malakhova shared her experience to urge other parents to be vigilant about potential symptoms of diabetes, listing the following warning signs:

  • Weight loss
  • Fatigue
  • Changes in behavior
  • Loss of focus
  • Irritability
  • Increased thirst
  • Frequent nighttime urination
"I won't describe here, with your permission, everything that happened, but I will say one thing - if your child is losing weight, is often tired, is not themselves, loses focus, becomes irritable, drinks a lot and especially goes to the toilet frequently at night - get their sugar levels tested," - Dasha Malakhova

Research and Recommendations

Recent research from the University of Bonn in Germany indicated that a short-term, low-calorie diet based on oatmeal can positively affect metabolism, lowering LDL cholesterol, body weight, and blood pressure in people with metabolic syndrome. Metabolic syndrome increases the risk of developing diabetes, and in the early 20th century, oatmeal was used as part of dietary therapy for diabetic patients. The Malakhova family plans to implement similar dietary changes to improve Matviy's health.

This situation underscores the critical importance of timely diagnosis and response to changes in children's health. Type 1 diabetes is a serious, lifelong condition requiring constant monitoring and lifestyle adjustments. Malakhova's experience may prove valuable for other parents who might be unaware of the symptoms. It also highlights the significance of a mindful approach to nutrition, particularly in the context of preventing metabolic disorders.
