Over 115,000 Ukrainians Have Already Taken Advantage of a $53 Health Screening Program
National Health Screening Initiative
According to Главком: Ukraine's National Health Screening program is gaining momentum, with 115,000 citizens already undergoing medical checkups as part of an effort to promote early disease detection. Aimed at adults aged 40 and older, the initiative offers a comprehensive health assessment for a state-funded fee of 2,000 hryvnias (approximately $53 USD). Participants can enroll through the Diia government portal or mobile app until June 30, 2026, with funds disbursed to their accounts after submitting an application. This program represents a proactive step in a country where chronic illnesses place a heavy burden on the healthcare system.
How the Screening Process Works
The rollout of the screening program is staggered based on each citizen's birth date. For instance, if your birthday falls on January 2, you will receive a notification on February 1; if it is January 10, the alert arrives on February 9. This phased approach ensures a smooth and organized process for all participants. The government guarantees that payments for the checkup will be made by May 1, 2026.
Medical checkups can be performed at state-run, municipal, or private healthcare facilities that have joined the initiative. To access the service, citizens must submit a request via the Diia portal or app. Once verified, the 2,000 hryvnia state subsidy is transferred directly to the recipient's bank account.
The program focuses on the most critical health indicators for people over 40. The screening package includes:
- Heart function assessment,
- Blood sugar level analysis,
- Basic diagnostics for early detection of cancer risks,
- Mental health evaluation.
'Screening helps assess risks for cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and other health issues in a timely manner, which can prevent the development of illnesses and save lives and health.' Yulia Svyrydenko
Ultimately, the National Health Screening program represents a significant step forward in improving public health, especially among older adults. By encouraging medical checkups, the initiative facilitates early detection of potential diseases and opens the door to preventive care. Given rising rates of chronic conditions, this effort could become a vital tool for reducing strain on the healthcare system and enhancing the quality of life for Ukrainian citizens.
