Death of a child with disabilities in Vinnytsia region: social services will conduct an inspection

A disabled boy died of hunger
Трагічна втрата дитини з особливими потребами у Вінницькій області: соціальні служби почнуть перевірку обставин інциденту.

According to glavcom.ua: On Tuesday, December 23, a meeting of the permanent commission on education, religion, culture, youth, and sports took place in the Vinnytsia region. The meeting was convened due to a tragic event in the village of Serebriya in the Mohyliv-Podilskyi district, where a child with disabilities died of hunger. Representatives of social services, the medical field, and education participated in the meeting.

According to information, the administration of the Serebriya special school had been working with the boy since 2020. The child had serious illnesses and speech disorders. After the death of his grandmother and grandfather, the family faced problems, due to which the boy did not attend school for some time.

In November, the mother submitted an application for the child to be transferred to a family form of education, but she did not allow teachers to see her son. Therefore, the educators did not realize that the child was in a critical condition.

During the meeting, it turned out that in August, a lawsuit was filed against the mother for improper performance of parental duties. However, the case was deemed insignificant. The Center for Social Services tried to help the mother, but it turned out that her level of preparation was insufficient.

Commission members expressed the need to conduct a thorough inspection of all social organizations involved in this tragedy. It should be recalled that a 10-year-old child with disabilities died of hunger in a family that found itself in a difficult financial situation.

Conclusion: The commission meeting in the Vinnytsia region took place due to the tragic situation of the hungry death of a child with disabilities. Participants of the meeting discussed all possible causes and took steps to inspect the activities of social services that could have allowed such an unfortunate incident.
