The case of 'Golden Mandarin': Pre-trial investigation completed for the former MP
According to САП: The pre-trial investigation in the case of 'Golden Mandarin' regarding the appropriation and legalization of over UAH 54.179 million from the state budget has been completed. It was established that the former MP implemented a criminal scheme from 2013 to 2016. The pre-trial investigation was completed by the prosecutor of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP).
Details of the case
According to the materials of the case, the appropriation and legalization of funds occurred through LLC 'Golden Mandarin Oil', which submitted an application to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in September 2013. At that time, 75% of PJSC 'Kyivenergo' belonged to private individuals, highlighting the complexity of financial relations in this case. According to the declaration, UAH 54.179 million was transferred from the state budget to the aforementioned company.
In January 2020, SAP and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) announced suspicions against six individuals involved in the criminal activity. In July 2023, charges were brought against the former people's deputy as well. The actions of the suspects are qualified under Articles 191, 209, 358, 382, and 387 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The completion of the pre-trial investigation in the case of 'Golden Mandarin' signifies the transition to the next phase of the process, which may include court hearings. This case attracts public attention not only because of the amounts of embezzled funds but also due to possible connections of high-ranking officials in corruption schemes.
