Senior Sergeant Ihor Kononets Lost His Life Defending Comrades from an Enemy FPV Drone in Sumy Region

Honoring the Memory of Border Guard Ihor Kononets

According to МВС: On October 13, 2025, near Ivolzhanske in the Sumy region, Senior Sergeant Ihor Kononets of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine died while evacuating a wounded comrade under attack by a hostile FPV drone. In a courageous effort to shield his team, Ihor sustained fatal injuries from the explosion, but the evacuation mission was successfully completed.

Since joining the State Border Guard Service in June 2024, Ihor had been a steadfast defender, responsible for holding frontline positions, delivering essential supplies, evacuating injured personnel, and maintaining communication during enemy assaults.

When his fellow soldiers required urgent aid, Ihor volunteered to join the evacuation team. In recognition of his bravery and selflessness, he was posthumously awarded the Medal 'For Military Service to Ukraine.'

The Ministry of Internal Affairs maintains a Memory Book honoring fallen defenders, compiling their stories and allowing new information about deceased border guards to be added through an online submission form.
