Fines for not wearing a seatbelt: how much drivers pay in Ukraine and abroad
Ukrainian drivers risk receiving a large fine for not wearing a seatbelt if they violate traffic rules. Currently, this violation is fined 510 hryvnias, but compared to other countries, this amount seems like a drop in the ocean. For example, in Australia, the fine can reach 6000 hryvnias, and in the USA even more than 8000 hryvnias. Therefore, experts believe that in Ukraine, the fine amount should be increased to 2000-3000 hryvnias for more effective deterrence of drivers.
The Australian authorities have set a fine of 225 Australian dollars, which is equivalent to approximately 6000 hryvnias at the current exchange rate. During holiday periods, the penalty amount doubles, reaching 12000 hryvnias. Local officials justify this approach by stating that it is on weekends and holiday days that road participants exhibit the greatest safety, and significant monetary penalties serve as an effective deterrent mechanism.
Medical professionals assert that even a minor accident can be fatal for a person who is not wearing a seatbelt. Therefore, adhering to traffic rules regarding the use of seatbelts is very important for preserving life during car trips.
In the event of violations of seatbelt rules on the road, both Ukrainian and foreign drivers risk receiving large fines that can significantly impact their wallets and improve overall road safety.
